This was a Fleurus commission for their Formule 1 magazine, a publication dedicated to male teenagers in the 13 to 18 bracket. I created the story, the script and the drawings, and felt quite happy with it, although the visual influences in it were so many I have to quote them all. There was first Lawrence of Arabia by David Lean, especially the exhausted horses moving slowly in the desert. There was Duel by Stephen Spielberg and the truck driver we never see, who I wanted identified. The desert and the oasis I took mainly from my memories of the RAS shooting, this film by Boisset I was somehow an actor in. At the time I had taken no sketch of the sand and oasis, but had picked the general atmosphere in them.
