Koala Story

This also was a Fleurus commission, but for a younger age target. I guess the name of the publication was Perlin-Pinpin, quite good circulation at the time among toddlers.

My wife was very fond of koalas, and liked to identify herself with the little creature, to the point that when I jokingly sketched our everyday life I would represent her as one. Hence this story, admittedly somewhat corny, but easily sold to the publisher at script stage of course.

The interesting thing about it is that this wife (the second in time) has actually been looking for her mother's affection all her life, but with far less success than the little red-haired girl in this story.

A small patch here in the text. My original text said: "Tu savais pas?" (You didn't know?) and the editor insisted, this being a publication for kids, that we use the proper negative form, so I then re-wrote "Tu ne savais pas?", (You did not know?) but again I had to change it to the more complete, but to my mind unrealistic and heavy, "Tu ne le savais pas?" (You did not know about it?)

Whatever...
